VR and AR code added to SpaceX's Starlink app
The latest update to SpaceX’s Starlink app added code from the Viro framework. The Viro framework describes itself as
Viro React is a platform for developers to rapidly build augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) experiences. Developers write in React Native, and Viro runs their code natively across all mobile VR (including Google Daydream, Samsung Gear VR, and Google Cardboard for iOS and Android) and AR (iOS ARKit and Android ARCore) platforms.
Why would SpaceX add a new VR / AR library to the Starlink app when the app already performs some AR in the app when the user is asked to scan the sky? Maybe the app could show users where Starlink satellites are in the sky using AR.
Recently Starlink’s app was updated on April 1st to replace the dots users are asked to scan in the sky with images of Dogecoin. Users could set their devices to 4/1 to see the Dogecoins even if you missed the one day event On April 11th Dogecoin developers announced that they will roll out offline DOGE transaction using SpaceX’s Starlink satellite network.
4/20 is an auspicious day in the world of companies headed up by Elon Musk. Today is 4/19 but when the date on a device is changed to 4/20 the Starlink app didn’t reveal why it added this new VR / AR framework.
