Exclusive: Sony's New yy2957 WI-C100 Wireless In-ear Headphones Revealed
4 colors, LE Audio, and more
Sony’s yy2957 in-ear headphones first appeared in an FCC listing as outlined by The Walkman Blog back in October 2021 and only includes the name WI-C100 and images of the battery section. Theses images reveal that the Sony yy2957 headphones are not truly wireless as a wire connects each bud and that they come in 4 colors: black, blue, cream, and white.
Bluetooth LE Audio
I found these images of the Sony yy2957 headphones alongside information that these may also include support for the next generation of BT Audio: Bluetooth LE (Low Energy) audio. BT LE Audio as described by the Bluetooth website:
Building on 20 years of innovation, LE Audio will enhance the performance of Bluetooth audio, add support for hearing aids, and introduce Bluetooth Audio Sharing, an innovative new Bluetooth use case with the potential to once again change the way we experience audio and connect with the world around us.
LE Audio uses LC3 compression which is a high-quality, low-power audio codec.
Classic Audio
Sony yy2957 headphones will also support what is now called “Classic Audio” which will allow it work with older Bluetooth devices that don’t support the new LE Audio format.
Endel Support
There is also a good chance that these new Sony headphones will support the Endel app. Endel is a generative music app that “adapts in real-time to personal inputs like location, weather, and heart rate.” Last month Sony announced support for AR sound when it introduced the Sony LinkBuds.
